The Adams Family - Gary, Amy, AnnDee, and Teigan
On Memorial Day 2004, AnnDee won a bottle of Equine Essentials at a barrel race. We were busying wondering what we were going to do with it when Stacy Glause, a fellow barrel racer, approached Gary and told him to feed it. Just feed two ounces a day to each horse but feed it.
We have a horse that was 19 years old at the time; he has been foundered twice, once about 10 years ago by being allowed to become extremely fat. He did not have feet problems but did develop a thick crest from this. Then in 2003 we attended a barrel race in Hurricane, Utah. Temperatures were it was 70 degrees during the day and we came from Castle Dale where it was only getting up in the 40’s. Whiskey was long haired and he heat foundered. He developed rotation in his feet which proper care from the vet corrected but he still had the large crest and also developed fat pockets around his tail head. In January of 2004 until AnnDee won the bottle of Equine Essentials this horse just was not running like he could. He had been a 2D occasionally 1D barrel horse but was now clocking in the 3D every run. We had increased the supplement we were feeding and increased his oats in hope of raising his energy level. He would exercise or run when asked but would act so tired after he was done. We were really thinking that his age was catching up with him. We decided to feed the Equine Essentials to Whiskey because we had about exhausted what we could do for him. We started Whiskey on 2 ounces a day just like Stacy told us to. Ten days later we traveled to a barrel race and competed on Whiskey. His run times had improved by half a second and he was back competing in the 2D. Whiskey looks good, he feels good. He is consistently in the 2D/1D. His muscle tone has improved; he isn’t dragging like he has no energy. The large crest is gone and so are the fat pockets. What Equine Essentials has done for this horse is amazing.
We started our 6 year horse on Equine Essentials about 6 weeks after Whiskey since we liked what we were seeing with Whiskey. We feed 2 ounces a day for three days and then we ran out of Equine Essentials. We had been feeding apple cider vinegar so we put this horse back on that until we could get more Equine Essentials. Tink just refused to eat any grain. Gary thought the horse was dying. Tink is a 1D horse and holds the arena record in Rifle Colorado, needless to say we worry about him and would like to keep him in a rubber room. We had been fighting a foot problem with him and when he went off his grain Gary thought he was seriously ill.
About Tink’s foot problem. Towards the end of June Tink came up sore on one front foot. A trip to the vet did not reveal any problems; x-ray’s were clean though not as clean as the vet would like to see. He told us to rest him for a month and keep him on bute. If he didn’t get any better to bring him back in a month. In a month the horse was still limping but not as bad. We took him back to the vet and he still could not find anything wrong. He recommended that we go back to exercising him, keep him on bute for one week and then while still exercising him bring him off the bute. If he was still lame we would need to decide how to shoe him so he could be used.
Dr. Godbee came to our town about this time to do a small presentation to a group of interested barrel racers after one of our barrel races and we talked with him about this horse. We had returned to feeding him two ounces of Equine Essentials each day. Dr. Godbee urged us to increase him to four ounces a day and exercise him.
We had entered AnnDee and Teigan in a barrel race on Labor Day on the brown horse and a mare that Teigan rides. On week after Dr. Godbee told us to increase the dose on Tink this mare got cut up on her back legs. We didn’t know the Equine Essentials could be used for treating cuts but wish we had. Because of this we moved Teigan onto Whiskey and decided to let AnnDee run Tink on Labor Day. We determined that we would monitor him after each run and if he came up lame we would then scratch AnnDee from the barrel race and forfeit the entry fees. We started Tink on Equine Essentials on about July 16 and we increased him to four ounces on about August 6 and went back to exercising him. Tink had been off exercise and running from the end of June until August 6. On Friday, August 29 AnnDee ran him at the warm up race in Salina, Utah and they won the race with a 15.8. Because of his foot problem we used this race for a prep run for the weekend. On Saturday AnnDee ran a 15.7 and was 7th in the 1D. Sunday she clocked a 15.4 and won the barrel race. We continued to monitor Tink after each run and we did include MSM in his feed along with the four ounces of Equine Essentials. On Monday they ran a 15.3 and was second in the 1D. This gave them the average win for the weekend. AnnDee won the youth year end for the XBA and won the average for the XBA finals. She came away with two saddles and over $5000 in paychecks. The dual went on to set a new arena record in Rifle Colorado in September.
The little mare that got cut up would wash out before each run. We would warm her up and then while waiting for her turn to compete she would become wringing wet just standing and waiting for her turn. We had her on two ounces of Equine Essentials for ten days when we went to a three day weekend race, a Wednesday night race, and then a three day weekend race. She made 7 runs in 10 days and at the end of the ten days had been on Equine Essentials for 20 days total. This mare did not wash out one time. It was right after this that she got cut up in the field and we were forced to give her two months off. We started riding her again in October but did not compete on her again until February 17 when Teigan ran her in Salina, Utah. That same weekend Teigan ran her in Moab, Utah. This mare had made 24 runs over a two year period in Moab and had never clocked faster than a 15.6 before this weekend. She ran a 15.2 with only one prep race since the first part of August. We have to give the credit to Equine Essentials. Not only did she clock that well but she also did not use up all of her energy by washing out prior to the race. That is a few of the experiences we have had with Equine Essentials. Our horses look good, feel good, and act good. We urge you to try it. Your horses will love you for it.
